The Work of Michele Rave Grassani

The work of Michele Rave Grassani is the inclusive result of an inexhaustible research, where daily life immediately or gradually acquires a form and material expression, as an automatic inventiveness embedded in his personality. Thus, we have drawings, paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs and videos.

It ranges from formal and figurative expressionism to informal painting, to near monochromes in the acrylics on canvas of the series entitled “Aura”. In addition: from phantasmal gestures to the hints of fetal biopsychic mystery, from the enigmatic or hallucinating installation to a conceptual art that curls up in its own conceptualism.

It is a conceptual approach, suggesting, exploring the responsiveness of the user to elicit a consensus, at times unconscious, reacting to a call to which you cannot help but accept, or to a decisive psychic healing process.

The perception is formative; the color transcends us, with all the emotional tones of a vision both natural and unnatural. The ornate becomes writing, the tangle envelops itself and we remain absorbed as if waiting to see the prefigured development of vitality. We understand from the titles that we are dealing with events, random cases, and news stories, visions of a daily sacredness, which at the same time remain and transcend us. Or they are sculptures of disgraceful figures, mixed with mystery and misery, with suffering and yet with humanity.

Elsewhere, three-dimensional frames, which contain a hoarded thingness, illuminated, revealing enhanced beings, which do not exist, yet with an essence which is present instead, because it makes itself present in an imagination unable to resist the challenge.

Here and there, we find an ironic production of para-Disney exhibits, which balance or edge on ledges or on illustrated springboards. Elsewhere in the photographs, light becomes trail of love movements, or the shadow of imaginary skylines, because the artist’s anxiety evokes all eventualities. Moreover, they are staged photographs, but transcended, perhaps because the machine does not second the aspirations of the author. They then become videos, previews of episodes from a lunar web-series, where even sound itself envelops and alienates us.

This visual and sound sequencing embraces the contemporary research of the meaning of art. Of art and of aesthetic sense as installation of aesthetic metaphysics behind a world that some (from Arthur Danto to Donald Thompson) nucleate and define as “the art world “, while others, more traditionally, see them as symbolic thinking and as expression of the possible with no historical and hermeneutical limits.

Abbiamo così disegni, dipinti, sculture, installazioni, fotografie e video.
